Very Nice moderate hike to the most spectacular view at top. 3.3 miles up and back. Stay on trail there is a lot of shortcuts. Bring bug spray, spray before there are European yellow flies. They got me don’t let them get you!!!
Be careful - this is an intermediate trail that can take inexperienced hikers 5+ hours for a round trip. The trail can get muddy, and when we went in December, icy. There is also a viewing spot after the peak of you continue down the trail. Be careful again because the view is on a downslope and people fall to their death every year from it.
Beautiful place, worth a visit. The drive is enjoyable
One of my favorite place. The hike is very rewarding. The view up there is beautiful. It is a bit crowded in the summer. Plan to do it again in the fall. We stay on the top for couple of hours in the hammock. Nice breeze. This place is very scenic on the fall. The trails are moderate to climb. You can bring your furry friends and of course with the leash on. Bring enough water and snack cause you may decided to hang around and enjoy the scenery.
Pretty strenuous hike but oh so worth it for the view at the top! Roughly 7 miles. The first part of the trail is switchbacks straight up. The last part gets rocky and steel, and you may have to do some minimal climbing. But the 180 degree view at the top is insanely beautiful and looks out over the whole mountain range. Pretty popular hike so come prepared to share the view with friends.
Incredible breathtaking views on the top of Looking Glass Rock. The hike to the top was difficult uphill terrain but was what I was expecting. When you start going downhill towards the end, you are almost at the view point. There was plenty of shade from the trees to help keep cool while trekking up. The hike down was a breeze. It is an out and back trail so you go back the way you came. Not much exciting on the trail but the end view is definitely worth it. Check out Looking Glass Falls down the road to cool off after the hike.
Great hike with spectacular views near the top. While the hike had significant elevation gain, it was spread out over the entire way up, so it never felt that steep for the most part. You will definitely want to make sure to bring plenty of water, though. While views from the top are great (be careful with the slope and especially the sections of rock that are wet), I found the best views to actually be from a short scramble somewhere around half a mile and one mile from the top. As you are heading up, you'll pass the helipad on the left and not too long after that, you'll see an exposed rock face on the right. The initial scramble is a bit steep, but once you get past that, it becomes easier, leading to great views of nearby John Rock and Table Rock.
This was a great hike, be prepared for lots of switchbacks throughout the first part of the trail. Definitely a cool hike. My pack thermometer said it was 6°F. We were blowing around in our hammocks all night but I would most definitely recommend this hike for anyone who hasn't added this to their belt yet.
